The Home Depot (NYSE: HD), Atlanta, announced this week that it has opened the doors on three new distribution centers in Sparrow Point, Maryland to speed up deliveries to its service stores and customers in the Baltimore region.

The 1.5 million-square-foot campus will bring nearly 500 full-time and part-time jobs to Baltimore. The campus is located in Sparrows Point’s revitalized Tradepoint Atlantic development. The Home Depot operates five distribution centers across the state of Maryland, servicing 42 stores.

The campus includes a facility that delivers appliances to stores and directly to customers; a flatbed delivery center that delivers oversized and bulk products like lumber, concrete, insulation or other oversized materials directly to DIY and Pro job sites; as well as a recently opened facility to fulfill and ship online orders directly to customers.

“We’re focused on creating an easier and more convenient shopping experience for our customers’ home improvement needs, whether they shop in stores or online,” said Stephanie Smith, senior vice president of supply chain for The Home Depot. “By investing in our supply chain, we’ll continue to meet the changing expectations of our Pro and DIY customers, while offering same day and next day delivery to 90 percent of the U.S. population.”

In 2017, the company announced a $1.2 billion investment in its supply chain and is in the process of building out its network with about 150 new facilities nationwide. In February, The Home Depot opened a new distribution center in Dallas to fulfill online orders and store orders.
