Rexel (RXL:PA), an international multichannel distributor, has finalized a $456 million deal to acquire Mayer Electric, a family-owned distributor of electrical products and services based in Birmingham, Alabama.
Rexel said in a statement that the acquisition reflects “a new strategic step to strengthen its presence in key markets.”
Mayer operates 68 branches in 12 states, with a strong presence in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Pennsylvania. The company ranks No. 12 on MDM’s Top Distributors list for electrical, data & security distributors with $1.1 billion in revenue in 2020.
Rexel ranks No. 5 on MDM’s list for top electrical, data and safety distributors, with $5.3 billion in 2020 revenue. The company runs more than 1,900 branches in 25 countries and employs more than 24,000 workers.
News of the deal made waves in the distribution industry last month, with Rexel USA CEO Jeff Baker telling MDM the acquisition was years in the making.
